Residents regroup after fire in Ocean Pines

OCEAN PINES, Md. – In Ocean Pines, those in Manklin Meadows Park are picking up the pieces after a fire destroyed their condo building. Residents tell 47 ABC that a lightning strike hit their roof over and caused a fire to spread to connecting homes. Luckily emergency officials were able to contain the fire within 15 minutes, and no one was hurt. But now, residents say they’ve got a lot of work to do before they can call their condo building home again.

“When it hit, the fire spread through everybody’s attic was on fire so they had to go in and put it out. All the ceilings are torn out and there’s debris everywhere and it’s just a mess. Thank God nobody was hurt. There was a lot damage. It was just a horrible thunderbolt it’s just one of those things that happens,” said Michael Vatakis.

Vatakis says that he was in Baltimore at the time when he got the call that his home was on fire. He adds that he and his family are working with United Restoration to repair all the damages.
