OCEAN CITY, Md – A 76-year-old New York man has died after being knocked down by a large wave in knee deep water early Sunday evening.

According to Jessica Waters, Communications Manager for the Town of Ocean City, the man was standing in the shallow waters of the surf on 21st Street at around 5:00 P.M. when the wave crashed and pulled him under.  Public safety personnel responded to the distressed swimmer as lifeguards on the scene acted quickly to attempt to find the man, which they did a short time later in the area of 16th Street. First responders attempted CPR and the swimmer was taken to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
