New Seaford Police vehicles should save city money
SEAFORD, Del. – Seaford’s Police Department is getting a new fleet of patrol cars.
Four SUV’s and a truck were delivered this week and they have a completely new look compared to their old white cars. They’re all black with the city’s official branding, logo and colors. While this upgrade may sound expensive, officials say they’ve actually partnered with Enterprise for a leasing program that will save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars, long term.
“Some cars are ten plus years old. Other cars are three or four years old. They constantly get run. They are always on the street providing a service to the city. And they require a lot of upkeep. If we can find any way to save money on that and still provide the same service, we are going to do that,” says Master Corporal Eric Chambers with the Seaford Police Department.
Officials say the SUV’s have much more room to fit equipment and are safer on the road. The department currently has 17 cars and will phase the new ones in over time. The five that they got this week should be on the road by the end of the day on Tuesday.
