MD sobriety check point finds no impaired drives; Saturation patrol nets four DUI arrests

BERLIN, Md. – A sobriety checkpoint was set up by the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack on Route 50 in Worcester County for more than an hour and as hundreds of vehicles passed through, police did not find a single impaired driver.

The checkpoint began on Thursday, August 15, at 11:02 P.M. and ended on August 16 at 12:16 P.M. , lasting a total of one hour and fourteen minutes. MSP, along with other allied law enforcement agencies in Worcester County, were set up on the westbound side of Rt. 50 at Silver Point Lane in Berlin.

According to the report a total of 415 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and while they found no impaired drivers at the checkpoint location, the subsequent countywide saturation patrol resulted in four DUI arrests.

47 ABC spoke with Maryland State Police who say this is not the first time that a checkpoint resulted in zero arrests for driving under the influence and that the area is improving when it comes to impaired driving.
