Local organization looks to provide feminine hygiene products to the homeless

WICOMICO CO., Md. – On Thursday, a Wicomico County organization received a shipment of products that will help them better the lives of homeless women and children in the area.

Housing First of Salisbury recently launched a program called Hi, Jean!

This program aims to provide homeless women or children in Wicomico County with a week’s worth of feminine hygiene products when they need it.

All a girl or woman has to do to get their hands on these products is email the Salisbury Housing First office at cchestnutt@salisbury.md or give them a call at 410-334-3031.

From there, Housing First will deliver the products in a small makeup bag.

Housing First says they hope to expand this program to other counties in the future because right now, there are many women out there who don’t have access to these products.

Christine Chestnutt, the Housing And Homelessness Manager said, “They are using whatever they can use. Restaurant napkins, socks, torn t-shirts, whatever things they need to use and to me, feminine hygiene products are not a luxury, they are a necessity.”

Housing First says they still need donations of makeup bags for their Hi, Jean! program.

If you have a small bag you can donate, you’re asked to call the House First Office at 410-334-3031.
