UPDATE: Investigation underway following burglary at Milford car dealership, three arrested

MILFORD, Del. – Milford Police say an investigation is underway after eight vehicles were stolen from a local dealership earlier this week.

According to police, to report came in at around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, from the IG Burton on N. Rehoboth Boulevard. It was then learned that eight new vehicles had been stolen from the dealership, including five 2019 police model Dodge Chargers with no emergency equipment, two 2019 Dodge Durangos, and a Dodge RAM 2500 Quad Cab.

Just before 3 p.m., officers found a 2019 Dodge Charger with three occupants in the downtown area. Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled northbound, eventually stopping in the area of Lakewood Place and Ross Street. All three occupants fled from the vehicle but were taken into custody a short time later. Police say the vehicle hit a tree in the area as a result of the suspects leaving the car in drive when they fled from it.

20-year-old Darius Payne-Bennett was charged with disregarding police signal, four counts of receiving stolen property, two counts of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, third degree conspiracy, disorderly conduct, and multiple traffic offenses. He was released on his own recognizance.

Two juveniles in the vehicle were also arrested and charged.

Throughout the afternoon, officers found six additional vehicles out of the eight stolen. They were all located throughout the Dover area and were unoccupied.

At around 8:30 p.m., officers located the stolen Dodge Durango in the Camden area but the vehicle fled northbound into the town of Camden. Once the vehicle reached the end of Old Camden Road, it crossed over all lanes of S. DuPont Highway and the suspects fled from the vehicle near the Auto Zone in the area of Asbury Road. None of the suspects in that vehicle have been captured at this time, but officers are pursing leads in the case.
