Downtown Salisbury businesses challenged to go purple

SALISBURY, Md. – Downtown Salisbury store fronts may soon be all decked out in purple, and it’s all for a good cause.

Downtown Salisbury has partnered with Wicomico Goes Purple, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of opioid addiction, to challenge businesses to decorate their storefronts in all purple, the color of the opioid awareness campaign.

It’s being done to bring attention to opioid addiction, something officials say some people don’t think about often.

“We’re hoping that this is going to draw attention to it, and maybe people walking by who don’t know anything about it will stop and say, ‘Oh my gosh, what’s all the purple?’ and they’ll get informed and they can pass it on,” Amy Zaprowski, Business Development Office Associate for the City of Salisbury, said.

Judging of the decorations will take place on September 9th, and winners will be announced on September 20th.
