Dover Police: Four arrested on gang related charges
DOVER, Del. – A relatively quiet Dover neighborhood is in the spotlight after police wrapped up a two month long investigation into gang activity, involving juveniles.
Dover Police say they arrested 19-year-old Jahheam Taylor and three 17-year-old boys, on Thursday. According to investigators they found a handgun, about $800, drugs and paraphernalia in the 200 block of East Sheldrake Circle. Police tell 47 ABC that the Cannon Mills Neighborhood is not usually a hot spot for crime.
They were targeting two gangs: 52 Hoover Gangster Crip and 23 Baby Insane Crip. Officials tell 47 ABC the immediate results are knowing that drugs, weapons and suspected gang members are off the streets. But there are other positives that can come from these arrests.
“The intelligence we gather through our investigation to pursue other gang members and prevent gangs from forming or prevent gang activity, but also again to rehab these individuals since they are such a young age and get them on the right path,” says Cpl. Mark Hoffman, the PIO with the Dover Police Department.
Taylor was committed to SCI in default of $68,200 cash bond on the following charges:
- Possession of firearm during commission of felony
- Possession with intent to deliver marijuana
- Possession of firearm by person prohibited (with drugs)
- Illegal gang participation
- Conspiracy 2nd degree
- Drug paraphernalia
The three juveniles are facing gang participation and drug related charges, to name a few. They are being held at the Stevenson House on a cash bond.
Dover Police tell 47 ABC it is becoming a trend, nationwide, to see younger kids get caught up in gangs but police are working to crack down on that activity.
