Community Foundation celebrates record breaking year for grants

SALISBURY, Md. – The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore just announced that they gave away a record breaking total of $6.2 million in grants in Fiscal Year 2019.

The funds were awarded through more than 17,000 grants supporting various community needs across the Lower Eastern Shore as well as more than 400 scholarships.

This is the most they’ve ever given away in one fiscal year and to make things even better, the foundation also recently earned it’s third consecutive accreditation from the National Standards for U.S.  Community Foundations, the nation’s highest standard for philanthropic excellence.

The foundation says it’s not just about the numbers, though, but it’s rather about the difference they make in the community each and every day.

Erica Joseph, the President of the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore said, “It’s always a matter of impact for us more than actual dollars because we know sometimes it’s just a very small grant that makes the most difference but our goal is consistently each year to engage more donors and to see that 6.2 million dollars go up.”

The $6.2 million in grants given away in Fiscal Year 2019 brings the Community Foundation to $84 million in grants given to the community since the year 1984.
