OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Police say a car struck the stop bar on the Route 50 bridge Sunday evening.

Just before 7:30 p.m., officials responded to the bridge for a report of an accident. On arrival, it was learned that a vehicle traveling westbound on the bridge was having difficulty seeing due to the sun and subsequently struck the stop bar, which was in the down position. The vehicle drove through the stop bar and broke it in half as a result.

The roadway was cleared a short time later and drawbridge activity was suspended. Approximately two hours later, State Highway arrived to the scene to repair the stop bar, which took approximately 50 minutes.
