Tawes Crab and Clam Bake brings big business into Crisfield

CRISFIELD, Md. – The annual J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake provides a huge economic boost to the City of Crisfield.

Ordinarily, the City of Crisfield has a little under 3,000 people in it but on Wednesday, that number more than doubled.

As for why this event is held in the middle of the week, the economic development director tells us it actually helps them bring in larger crowds.

Danny Thompson, the Executive Director for Economic Development said, “It’s a big day, it’s in the middle of the week and people keep saying, ‘Why the middle of the week, why not on a weekend?’ If we had it on the weekend, they would probably be somewhere else and visiting Maryland state tourism places all across the great state of Maryland but for today, Crisfield is the Capitol of Maryland.”

The co-chair of the Crab and Clam bake tells us he believes this was one of their top five biggest events they’ve done.
