Sen. Coons stops by fair to honor agriculture students

HARRINGTON, Del. – United States Senator Chris Coons took a break from Washington D.C to have some fun at the Delaware State Fair.

The Delaware senator spent his morning celebrating and honoring middle and high schoolers at the annual FFA awards breakfast. Throughout the fair students have been  showing livestock working different booths and participating in competitions. Senator Coons tells 47 ABC that the breakfast is more than just handing out awards, it’s about ensuring that the future of agriculture continues to thrive here on the shore. While also preparing the future ag leaders of Delmarva.

“We have a well diversified agriculture community and its an absolutely critical part of our state. One of the reasons I love coming to the Delaware State Fair is that I get to hear from my constituents who are in agriculture. Agriculture is very important to Delaware and to our country,” said Coons.

Senator Coons adds all of the information he learns from speaking with people at the fair Friday will help him create bills and other pieces of legislation that will help protect and better serve those in the agriculture industry.
