Organizers want suicide awareness billboards back

SNOW HILL, Md. – The Save a Shore Farm Organization is hoping they’ll get the grant money they need to get suicide awareness billboards back up on the Eastern Shore.

Organizers are requesting the grant from the Rural Maryland Council.

The billboards were up a few months ago, and have since been replaced.

But organizers say they want them up again because studies show that farmers have a higher risk of taking their own lives compared to other groups.

“Ideally someone will see, and think, ‘that reminds me of the farmer next-door, I’ve seen some of these warning signs from the farmer next-door, or from my own husband, or my own wife, or my son or daughter,'” Ron Pilling, an organizer, said.

Leaders with the group tell 47 ABC the grant application is due next week and, if approved, the billboards could be up by October.
