OC Green Team launches source reduction program

OCEAN CITY, Md. – After months of planning and preparation, the Ocean City Green Team launched the community’s first source reduction program in the town.Officials say the new program is encouraging businesses to voluntarily commit to making greener choices–by pledging to reduce the amount of single-use plastic or styrofoam in their restaurants. The Green Team also announced that they’ll collaborating on a cigarette-butt recycling program to help reduce waste as well. Officials say these initiatives was created to help further reduce the amount of waste and plastic in the resort town, while also ensuring it remains a prime destination for all.

“I think this is the type of thing Ocean City is good at. This is the type of thing as a community we get together and we do and I think it’s going to continue to grow. I think as a community we recognize the importance of this to our environment and we’re all moving forward collectively to do what we can to make a difference,” said Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan.
