New housing and restaurant coming to Milford

MILFORD, Del. – Some changes are coming to the city of Milford thanks to grants from Delaware’s Downtown Development Districts Program.

A new restaurant called “Benvenuto” is going into the space where the former Abbott’s Grill was. Additionally, four condo buildings with a total of 48 units will be built in the now empty lot along the Mispillion River.

City officials tell 47 ABC that the condos have been in the works for about 5 to 6 years now. They say the combination of new housing along with the restaurant will help the area continue to flourish.

“Adding people to downtown, along with places for them to go like restaurants and shops, is going to make this town with this downtown have a lot of nightlife activity. And I think it will be ensuring prosperity for the businesses that are here,” says Eric Norenberg, the Milford City Manager.

The Development Districts Program actually reimburses businesses for certain construction costs as an incentive to invest in towns. The new restaurant is already under construction but exact plans for the new condos still have to be approved.

According to the state, the condos will be, “new construction on a vacant lot, and units will consist of two and three bedroom options available for renters or buyers. Each unit will have a panoramic view of the Mispillion River and be a short walk to the downtown shopping district.”

Next year, Milford will be making improvements along North East Front Street that officials say will make it a more walkable place.
