New drive cycle track opens on Waverly Drive

SALISBURY, Md. – If you’ve driven down Waverly Drive in Salisbury recently, you may have noticed the new Drive Cycle Track that was recently put down. Officials say this is the newest addition put in to help bicyclists get to and from downtown safely. They tell 47 ABC that cycling has increased in the city drastically within the past couple of months, and they wanted to create a safe path for people to ride in. Now they say there’s still more work to be done like adding more stripes and signage to help direct people where to drive. But it’s the first step in a number of project to make the area more cycle friendly.

“We have an increase in bicyclists we have a lot more people that are asking for it, a lot of people who are interested in biking but don’t have a safe route they don’t feel safe on the standard road. It’s a nationally recognized design standard that we’re using to connect people downtown to the university area,” said Transportation Project Specialist, William White.

Officials add this is just the first of four installments that will be made throughout the city. Both the Northwood Park Drive Loop are currently in progress.
And construction on the Carol Avenue Cycle Track is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks.
