Locals React to Former Kitty’s Flowers Employee being Charged with Theft
SALISBURY, Md. –Court documents show that a former employee of Kitty’s Flowers allegedly stole over $100,000 worth of property from the shop over a four year span.
36-year-old Kimberly Jo Harrison pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday. She was released without bail after a judge denied the state attorney’s office request to hold her on bail which they wanted set at over $150,000 according to John Phoebus, Harrison’s attorney.
“She’s looking forward to defending herself in court,” Phoebus said.
According to the court documents, Harrison is charged with one count of theft of over $100,000 and one count of embezzlement. If found guilty, she could face up to 25 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.
“I guess you never know what people do or what causes them to begin taking money in the first place, maybe it starts small but when they’re in need and it just escalates,” Daric Schroen, a Salisbury local said. “I wouldn’t expect that.”
Regardless of the outcome in the case, Kitty’s Flowers is still out a lot of money and Schroen believes the shop deserves the community’s help.
“I hope people are willing to help them, they’ve been in the community for a while and I think they serve the community well,” Schroen said.
47 ABC visited Harrison’s home to reach out for comment but no one answered the door. We also reached out to Kitty’s Flowers ownership but they declined to comment.
Harrison will face a trial by jury in November.
