Great-granddaughter of late emperor visits SU

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University got a special visit from the great-granddaughter of the last emperor of Ethiopia on Wednesday.

Emebet Hannah Meherete-Selassie is the great-granddaughter of Emperor Haile Selassie.

Meherete-Selassie spoke with students at the University’s Holloway Hall.

She shared her family’s history and how she was forced to flee from her country following the death of the emperor. Meherete-Selassie also discussed her memoir.

Meherete-Selassie tells 47ABC that she hopes to inspire people to help bring more peace to her country.

“I would like to see more peace and stability in that region and I hope that my talk today will inspire a lot of different people towards that goal,” said Meherete-Selassie.

Families from Ethiopia living in Salisbury also met up with Meherete-Selassie.

There will be another discussion with Meherete-Selassie on Thursday at 2 PM at the Pemberton Coffee House.
