Free program offered to help middle school girls with their mental health

SNOW HILL, Md. – The Worcester County Health Department is hoping a free summer program can help girls as they transition into Middle School.

The Just For Girls summer program is designed to help local girls entering middle school in sixth and seventh grade, with learning life skills, improving their self-esteem and attending field trips.

The program lasts for a week and a half in mid-August, and is designed to help girls build up the resources in themselves to feel confident entering the new school year.

The intent is to support the girls in developing a strong and healthy self-image which has a positive effect on how they act and feel, as well as their academic performance.

“Things like depression or anxiety, in particular, dealing with a scary time. Just teaching them those foundation skills for being confident, being independent and having high self esteem,” said Travis Brown, the health department’s public information officer.

Just For Girls will take place at the Worcester County Health Department from August 13 to the 23 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
