First chain hotel gets green light to be built in Millsboro

MILLSBORO, Del. – “I’ve been hearing about it for quite a while and I’m glad to hear that it is finally a reality and will be coming,” said Antique Alley Dealer, Joyce Graves.

Residents and business owners in Millsboro can’t contain their excitement after learning that plans to build a brand new hotel right in the busiest part of the town are moving forward.

“I think it could only help the economy and also would be very accommodating for people who might want to stop here on their way somewhere else,” said Graves.

Town officials tell 47 ABC that construction for the soon to be Avid hotel is expected to begin very soon, and they say what’s more exciting is the the growing business opportunities that will come with it.

“Research does show that sit down restaurants follow hotels so we’re hopeful that on sites near the hotel site that we’ll have that interest from sit down restaurants. It seems to be especially interesting to steakhouses and sports bars so the town will be especially focusing its efforts on those two kind of sub-categories moving forward,” said Millsboro Town Manager Sheldon Hudson.

Residents in the area say the addition of the hotel is just another example of how fast the town of Millsboro is growing.

“Now, compared to 20 years ago, what you see in the area is tremendous,” said Millsboro resident Bridgette Wroten.

“When a city starts to land hotels, sit down restaurants, that ‘s a sign that it’s transitioning from small town to big town ,” said Hudson.

Officials add that while the hotels development is still in its early stages, they expect it to be a win-win for everyone. Town officials add that construction for the hotel could begin this fall, and it’s expected to be completed within a year or two.
