Fatal shooting at Delaware nursing home

WILMINGTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon at the ManorCare nursing home.

Troopers were dispatched to 700 Foulk Road at 1:12 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

Police say an 82-year-old male and a 79-year-old female were both pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. Officials say the female was a resident of ManorCare.  A handgun was also recovered from the scene.

The two bodies have been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science where an autopsy will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death. The victims’ identities are being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

The investigation is in the early stages but police say there is no concern for public safety.

The building has also been cleared and declared safe.
