DSP investigating fatal pedestrian crash in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Delaware State Police Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian Thursday night.

According to police, at around 9:10 p.m. a Volkswagen Bug was traveling southbound on Route 113 in the left lane approaching Ennis Street when a pedestrian attempting to cross the southbound travel lanes walked directly into its path. The driver of the Volkswagen was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

Officials say the pedestrian, a 28-year-old female from Georgetown, was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing and not carrying a light. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 21-year-old female from Arnold, MD, remained on scene and was not injured in the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
