Crash leads to third DUI charges for Laurel man

LAUREL, Del. – A Laurel man is facing his third DUI charges after Delaware State Police say he crashed a Ford F-150 into a ditch.

The crash happened on Friday at around 6:50 p.m. on Hitch Pond Road when, police say, 61-year-old William D. Smith Sr. took a turn too fast and lost control of his vehicle. When police arrived on scene, they say an odor of alcohol was detected. An investigation revealed that Smith had two prior DUI convictions.

Smith is now charged with 3rd Offense Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol and other charges.
