Cooling center to open in Wicomico County

WICOMICO CO., Md. – With temperatures hitting near record highs in parts of Delmarva, Wicomico County officials are taking action.

The county will be opening a cooling center at the Wicomico County Civic Center this Friday.

People will need to bring their own water and medications.

Staff will also be at the center to provide medical assistance. Pets will not be permitted.

“The temperature alone is going to be high, but with the heat index it’s going to be in the triple digits, so it’s very nice to have somewhere for people to go that there’s air conditioning and they can cool off and have a safe place to go,” said the Wicomico County Health Department PIO, Jennifer Johnson.

The cooling center will be open from Friday until Monday between 11 AM until 7 PM.
