Construction on Main Street in Salisbury complete, roads open to the public

SALISBURY, Md. – Finally drivers in Salisbury can rejoice. Construction on Maine Street is finished, and the road is now open to the public…for now. According to Salisbury’s Mayor Jake Day, Main Street will remain open for the next couple of days because of the holiday. But, crews are expected to work on replacing the sewer and water lines located at the intersection of East Main Street and South Division Street within the next couple of days. Day says this is all part of the city’s water infrastructure project to replace old sewer and water lines to help address stormwater and flooding issues in the area. And he adds that it doesn’t hurt that the city is also getting a makeover as well.

“It gets better on the topside. The upside of it is at the end of the day you get a beautiful uniformed streetscape that looks like the prettiest cities in the country and isn’t sort of a hodgepodge of what we’ve been dealt over the years,” said Day.

Mayor Day adds that he expects the intersection construction to be completed before the start of the National Folk Festival. And once the festival is over, they’ll have two blocks left to complete on the plaza and at North Division Street.
