Sidewalks could be coming to Fenwick Island

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. – A project in Fenwick Island could bring new sidewalks to a six block stretch along Coastal Highway, but only if the state can get funding.

The sidewalks could be put in from James Street to Essex Street, blocks packed with shops and businesses that lure in tourists.

But with no sidewalks – customers are forced to drive around the town instead of walking.

Those certain blocks currently don’t have sidewalks, which local businesses say impacts how many customers they get coming in and out, so some businesses hope the sidewalks come soon.

“I think the sidewalks would be beneficial because it would bring in a lot more foot traffic. a lot of people don’t really see that we’re right here, so people are walking along they’ll see our shop more,” Davina Ell, manager of Crepes and Crazes, said.

The town of Fenwick Island still needs to find funding for the project before construction can start.
