Police: Child seriously injured, woman charged with 5th DUI

GREENWOOD, Del. – Delaware State Police say a woman is behind bars, facing her 5th DUI charge, after she was reportedly involved in a car accident that left a child seriously injured.

Troopers say they were dispatched to Shawnee Road, at Harvest Lane, in Greenwood at 9:46 on Saturday night. According to police the driver, Patricia Prettyman, was at the scene and they smelled alcohol on her. Officials conducted a DUI test and found that the 53-year-old Milford woman was intoxicated.

There were two passengers in the vehicle including an adult male and his 11-year-old son. Prettyman and the two passengers were transported to the Bayhealth Sussex Campus. The 11-year-old child was later brought to the A.I. DuPont Hospital with serious injuries.

Prettyman was released from the hospital and transported back to Troop 5 where she was charged with the following:

  • 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence
  • Vehicular Assault First Degree
  • Endanger Welfare of Child
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child While DUI
  • Vehicular Assault Third Degree
  • Driving While Suspended
  • Failure to Maintain Lane

Prettyman was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to The Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $20,201.00 cash only bond.
