Pittsville residents to hold community water drive
PITTSVILLE, Md. – Residents are stepping up following a months-long water crisis in Pittsville.
While still dealing with dirty water coming from their sinks, community members there organized a water collection drive for Saturday.
The group is looking to collect any unopened cases of water or any unopened gallons of water.
Organizers say this is necessary, especially to help certain groups, like the elderly and the disabled, who are struggling without a clean water supply.
One resident who helped organize the drive tells 47 ABC that this is just the “Eastern Shore way” of doing things – stepping up to help those in need.
“Unfortunately this water crisis has been a really hard situation on a lot of the residents, and you know, it’s 90 degrees most days here in the summer, you can’t really go without having water that you’re comfortable drinking,” Jared Schablein, a Pittsville resident who helped organize the drive, said.
Community members will be collecting water on Saturday at the Unitarian Church is Salisbury from 8 a.m. until noon. They will then be handing that water out to Pittsville residents at the Pittsville Public Library from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m.
