OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Town of Ocean City has announced the new Ocean City Fire Department chief.

On Tuesday, officials with the town announced that longtime Montgomery County firefighter Richie Bowers has been hired.

Bowers replaces former chief Chris Larmore who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Bowers was previously a member of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service for 34 years and served in every career rank, from firefighter/EMT to fire chief. He also served on the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search as well as Rescue Maryland Task Force I team. He went on several deployments while in that role, including the Oklahoma City bombing and the 9/11 Pentagon terrorist attack.

The town says they received more than 70 applications for the position, which opened up at the end of March.
