Milford police arrest wanted man following brief pursuit

MILFORD, Del. – Milford Police arrested a Lincoln man following a brief foot pursuit Tuesday evening.

Just before 8:30 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a man walking in the 600 block of North DuPont Boulevard (Route 113). After identifying the man as 22-year-old Louis Welch, it was learned that he was wanted multiple times for various cases out of Kent County and Justice of the Peace Court #6.

When the officer attempted to make contact with Welch, he reportedly fled on foot to the west side of North DuPont Boulevard. An off duty officer stepped into assist and took Welch into custody without further incident. During the flee, police say Welch entered a property in which he was banned from in 2018.

Welch was charged with resisting arrest and third degree criminal trespass, and is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution. He is scheduled for an arraignment in September.
