Ironman 70.3 Eagleman returns to Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – This weekend 3,000 people made their way to Cambridge for a chance to test their endurance at the Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon.

The event draws athletes to compete in a 1.2 swim, a 56 mile bike course and a 13.1 mile run.

Because of the rough weather on Sunday, the swim was cancelled.

This year, people honored former Race Director Gerry Boyle who unexpectedly passed away back in March.

People in the community say this race is a chance to raise money for local non-profits, and it also helps bring more foot traffic into local businesses.

“We’ve been able to raise so much money for all of our local non-profits, school groups,” said Angie Hengse, the volunteer director.

“It’s really been a huge economic boost for the whole county and the state too,” said Hengse.

The Ironman Maryland course will touch down in Cambridge this September. Sunday’s race was the Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon.
