Gun rights advocates rally outside Delaware Legislative Hall

DOVER, Del. – A gun rights rally took place in front of Legislative Hall on Sunday to protest against proposed gun control bills in the First State.

The event hosted by Delaware Gun Rights is called Straight Out of Compliance.

Gun rights advocates in attendance believe gun ownership deters crime in the First State and they believe gun ownership gives people a sense of safety.

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis was also in attendance at Sunday’s event.

Sheriff Lewis has made bold statements against certain gun control bills in Maryland in the past, and on Sunday he brought more awareness about his We Will Not Comply Message in the First State.

That message suggests that certain police departments would not comply with the gun control bills if passed.

State Senator Brian Pettyjohn said Sunday’s gun demonstration was a chance for people to stand up for their second amendment rights.

“It’s a great opportunity for people who believe in their second amendment rights, believe in their rights that are protected in article one section 20 of the Delaware constitution to come out here to make sure their voices are heard and to make sure their numbers are seen,” said Pettyjohn.

Despite the demonstrations, some Delaware lawmakers will continue to fight for more gun restrictions because they believe it would prevent mass shootings and reduce the amount of gun deaths in the state of Delaware.
