Gold wins annual DFRC Blue-Gold football game in honor of Woodbridge’s Haynes

NEWARK, Del.- For the first time ever, the 64th annual DFRC Blue-Gold game was played under the lights on a Friday night.

With the Gold team taking their third straight senior all-star game 38-24, thoughts were not only on the score, the foundation, but one player missing from the Gold team.

Troy Haynes, two-time state champion quarterback from Woodbridge, is still #FightingLike4 on his cancer battle. Not able to play in an annual tradition for high school athletes, his four (ironically) Blue Raider teammates stepped up, honoring him by wearing his No. 4 jersey.

Josh Propes, Jamon Kane, Gabe Wescott, and Brock Keeler rotated wearing Haynes’ longtime number, each taking a turn with the gold jersey with the blue number.

Kane took home MVP honors, and Wescott, who finished with two total touchdowns, was awarded the Outstanding Leadership award.

While Haynes, who has the entire first state behind him, was not on the sidelines physically, but his presence was still felt on the sidelines.
