Fruitland baseball tournament draws team from Puerto Rico
FRUITLAND, Md.- Typically drawing Little League teams from the Mid-Atlantic region, Fruitland baseball has a new territory represented at their beginning of summer tournament.
The Top Rank 14U team from Puerto Rico made the trip to play in Fruitland’s 14U End of June Summer Sizzler. After an eight hour trip via planes and busses, the PR team says it’s a good chance for the kids to get a different look at baseball in the United States.
“It’s crazy, we’ve never been in Maryland. It’s the first time my kids from 14-years-old have travelled out of Puerto Rico, so it’s been nice,” said team manager Jeffrey Rosado. “It’s been a great experience for the whole team, to get out of their environment in Puerto Rico to up here.”
While some activities, like going to the beach, are desired, players have a bigger goal in mind.
“We are here to play baseball and to have fun,” said Jeremy Nieves, a player on the Top Rank team. “My goal, and my team’s goal is just to win.”
