Fatal crash investigation underway in Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of one and injured two others Thursday afternoon.
According to police, at around 3:50 p.m., a Chrysler Town & Country minivan failed to maintain its lane while going around a slight right curve on Old Furnace Road, crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting a Ford 6 wheel box truck head-on.
The driver of the minivan, a 73-year-old male from Rehoboth Beach was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the minivan was a registered Delaware taxi that was carrying two passengers at the time of the incident. A 21-year-old male was taken to PRMC for observation only, while a 20-year-old male was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was later released.
The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old Bridgeville man was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Christiana Hospital in serious condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
