Families honor veterans with planting of American flags
MILLSBORO, Del. – More than 1,300 American flags are now waving across the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
This was all part of an event called The Flag Detail.
At the event flags were planted to honor and remember our service members who have passed away.
Members of the Patriot Guard Riders and the 2nd Brigade provided hundreds of flags for Sunday’s event, but sadly not every grave received a flag.
Volunteers worked hard to raise money to get as many American flags as possible, but each flag costs about 72 cents and they simply were not able to raise enough money.
Jim Dillard from the Patriot Guard Riders said moving forward he wants to make sure that every grave will have a flag planted beside it.
“These people are our veterans,” said Dillard, “Why it means so much to me I don’t know, but they deserve to have a flag on their grave 24/7, 365.”
Dillard said he hopes to expand his mission of planting American flags beside military graves to nearby states in the future.
