Day two: Jarrett Stokes murder re-trial
WICOMICO CO., Md. – In Wicomico County, it’s day two of the re-trial for accused murderer Jarrett Stokes. The state is once again alleging that the 22-year-old shot and killed Rakim Russell in the parking lot of America’s best value inn back in august of 2015.
On Tuesday, the jury heard key testimony from the driver of the getaway car who painted a pretty clear picture about what happened that fateful night.
Marquel Pinder testified to driving Stokes and the other co-defendants back to America’s Best Value Inn with the intent of settling an argument that broke out earlier that night.
Pinder also says that Stokes, who he claims was sitting in his front passenger seat, shot multiple rounds into the crowd that ended up striking the victim Rakim Russell point blank in the head.
But the defense was quick to question Pinder’s credibility reiterating his agreement with the state to serving a lesser sentence for his testimony as well as different details of his testimonies that don’t line up from previous trials.
Ultimately, it will be up to the jury to decide whether or not Pinder is telling the truth. Although one thing was made clear in court Tuesday, the victim’s mother, who made heart wrenching testimony, lost her youngest child all too soon.
More key witnesses from inside that getaway car are expected to testify in court on Wednesday starting at 9 a.m.
