Community rallies for Rehoboth Beach family
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Neighbors at the Sea Air Village are in disbelief after a massive fire destroyed a trailer home just a few weeks ago.
“It was devastating to us, but we’re not the ones who lost everything,” said Gina Sautter, a resident.
People said 61-year-old Michael Cox and his family were left with nothing to salvage.
“They lost everything,” said Noemi Marrero, a resident.
“See what happened?” said Thomas Davis, a resident.
“They just lost their house,” said Davis.
That is why the community is standing together side by side to help raise $18,000 dollars. Money that will help the Cox family move into a new home in the resort town.
“We’re just trying to pull together as a community like a little family to do what we can for them you know to help them rebuild their lives,” said Gina Sautter, a resident.
Neighbors said you can still see what is left of some of the toys that belonged to the family’s 5-year-old grandson and in front of the house other items were found melted.
It is a devastating sight for the community.
“I think anybody that loses their house in such a manner especially when you know a lot of people around here don’t have too much going on for them,” said Davis.
“So, any support you can give anyone that this happens to is a great thing to do,” said Davis.
Neighbors said all they can do is spread a message of hope and help the family get back on their feet.
For people who are interested in helping the Cox family find a new home, they can reach out to the Sea Air Village main office at 302-227-8118.
