BREAKING: Police investigating assault at Easton YMCA

EASTON, Md. – Easton Police are currently investigating an assault incident that left one person dead earlier this morning.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the YMCA for an altercation just before 8 a.m. On arrival, police found the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Andre LaMont Price Jefferson, laying on the lobby floor. 72-year-old John Cassidy was found on the floor of the men’s locker room suffering from apparent injuries.

Both were taken to the University of Maryland-Easton Hospital for treatment, where Cassidy later succumbed to his injuries. Jefferson was released into police custody after being treated.

Through investigation, police are learning that an altercation occurred in the men’s locker room, where Jefferson caused injuries to Cassidy that resulted in his death. It is still unknown what the motive may have been or what the relationship was between the two males, if any.

The Easton YMCA will remain closed for the rest of the day, and tell us that they will announce reopening plans through their website as well as social media.
