UPDATE: Barricaded subject in police custody

1:23 p.m. UPDATE: Delaware State Police say the 38-year-old male subject has surrendered to police and is in custody at this time. He is currently being taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

The investigation into this incident continues, and charges may be forthcoming. Howe Drive will reopen shortly.


12:06 p.m. UPDATE: Police say the subject continues to remain barricaded inside the residence. Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and Conflict Management Teams are trying to make contact with the subject and continuing to try to get him to surrender.

The area remains evacuated and the road remains closed.


DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a potentially armed barricaded subject inside a Dover residence.

At around 9:15 a.m., troopers were called to complete a welfare check on an unstable male subject alone in a house in the unit block of Howe Drive. No further information is available at this time.

Troopers say that several residences in the area have been evacuated as a precaution, and Howe Drive is currently closed. Motorists should seek an alternate route of travel.
