Bowling tournament supports Officer Spencer Wiersberg

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – People came together on Sunday in support of a Fruitland police officer battling a rare form of bone cancer.
Spencer Wiersberg has been battling cancer since early March and on Sunday dozens attended a Bowling for a Cause Tournament to help him pay for his medical bills.
Ocean City Police, the Pittsville Fire Department and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office all came out in support of Wiersberg.
Wiersberg is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy in Baltimore.
His dad tells 47ABC the support from the community has been overwhelming.
“For me and my family it’s just overwhelming,” said Lt. Rich Wiersberg.
“The community support has been shown for Spencer, and I can’t describe how great it is for us to show that has shown to us how the community is helping us fight for this right now,” said Rich.
Sunday’s bowling tournament generated over $1,000 dollars.
Organizers for the tournament say they plan to host another fundraising event on September 29 at the Eastern Shore Lanes in Pocomoke.
