Woodbridge School District preparing for second upcoming referendum
BRDIGEVILL, Del. – The Woodbridge School District is taking another shot at passing their current expense referendum that was shut down by residents back in March. School officials say this referendum is exactly the same as the last one. where they’re looking to fund the district’s $950,000 operating budget. In it’s proposal, the district say’s they’re trying to increase property taxes by nearly 65 % for residents in both Kent and Sussex County, where homeowners could see an increase between $70 and $80 per year.
“If this doesn’t pass we’re going to have to leave about 17 to 20 positions unfilled and most likely were going to have to get rid of our school resource officer’s and three of our buildings. We didn’t do that last time, we said we didn’t want to run the threat referendum, we thought that we could get past get it passed on its own merits, but that didn’t happen,” said Superintendent Heath Chasanov.
The referendum is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29th and polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM.
