Whale nearly freed from fishing net near Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. – In Ocean City, the rain held off just long enough tonight for Natural Resource officers and good Samaritans to make a daring rescue in the water near Ocean City. First responders say that they were able to get a 40-foot long whale relatively free from a commercial net around 8 o’clock tonight.
One of the good Samaritans, Turtle Brown, who also shared videos, pictures, and more information, says it’s likely that, in his words ‘baby humpback’ still needs some help. Brown says that they found it in the Assawoman Bay just south of the Jolly Roger Amusement Park and is asking boaters to keep an eye out. He says that he delivered some of the numbered buoys to the Department of Natural Resources in West Ocean City. The whale’s species and gender remain unknown at this time.
