Vaping devices add new challenge to World No Tobacco Day
SALISBURY, Md. – World No Tobacco Day is Friday and local organizations, like the Wicomico County Health Department, are doing what they can to help people live a healthier lifestyle.
This is a day that encourages people who smoke to take a pledge to stop smoking for 24 hours.
The department is busy handing out kits to help with this.
Things have changed over the years with the introduction of vaping devices, like Juuls, that are seen as a way to quit smoking. But the health department says they just aren’t safe alternatives, and to combat the upward trend there needs to be more education.
“There’s not enough information out there for us to really say that it is safe, so we just encourage them and let them know that there are some cancer causing chemicals in vape products,” said the Wicomico Health Department tobacco program coordinator Rhonda Bryant.
The health department offers classes for people who want help quitting, those happen every Thursday at noon.
