Vacant Georgetown church heavily damaged in early morning fire
GEORGETOWN, Del. – An early morning fire heavily damaged an abandoned Georgetown church Sunday.
Saint Mary’s Holy Church in the 20000 block of Donovan’s Road became engulfed in flames shortly after midnight.
We’re told the blaze was contained within an hour. Georgetown Fire Department was assisted by fire companies from Milton, Ellendale, Millsboro and Laurel. Sussex County EMS paramedics, as well as Georgetown American Legion’s ambulance were on scene to assist.
Investigators are still working to determine the origin of the fire, but the damage was estimated at $50,000.
