Traffic stop leads to charges for three

ELLENDALE, Del. – Ellendale Police arrested three people Monday afternoon following a traffic stop for a suspicious vehicle.

According to police, the stop was initiated at around 1:30 p.m., on Ponder Road just north of Ellendale. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 39-year-old Robert Ciaraldi III gave police a false name initially.

A portable fingerprint scanner positively identified the driver as well as two other subjects in the vehicle, 26-year-old Shawn Smith and 31-year-old Dezaray King. It was also learned that the driver had a suspended license, while the other two had outstanding warrants for their arrests.

Ciaraldi was arrested for criminal impersonation and driving while suspended, and was released at the scene to a licensed driver.

Smith was arrested on a Sussex County Court of Common Pleas capias for resisting arrest. He was later released on an unsecured bond.

King was arrested on four outstanding warrants out of both Kent and Sussex Counties, and was committed to the Baylor Women’s Prison on $1,500 secured bond.
