Three firearm regulation bills not moving forward in Delaware

DOVER, Del. – Three separate pieces of gun legislation will not be moving through the Delaware Senate Executive Committee after all.

After hours of public debate, the Senate Majority Caucus announced on Monday that Bills 68, 70 and 82 do not have enough support from lawmakers.

Senate Bill 68, “prohibits the manufacture, sale, offer to sell, transfer, purchase, receipt, possession, or transport of assault weapons in Delaware, subject to certain exceptions”.

Senate Bill 70, “includes clear definitions for the term “large-capacity magazine,” as an ammunition feeding device with a capacity to accept more than 15 rounds of ammunition”.

Senate Bill 82, “creates an application process to obtain a handgun qualified purchaser card, to authorize the purchase of a handgun, or a firearms qualified purchaser card, to authorize the purchase of firearms other than a handgun”.

The Senate Majority Caucus says that they hope conversation on gun laws will continue and urge supporters of the bills to show their support by expressing the “effectiveness, purpose and constitutionality of the legislation”.
