Suspect arrested in connection to burglary and thefts from vehicles, one still at large
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police have arrested a man in connection to an attempted burglary and thefts from vehicles in the Dover area.
At around 3:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to an attempted burglary at a home in the 200 block of Meadow Drive. It was then learned that 46-year-old Richard Edwards and another suspect knocked on the victim’s front door, but when no one answered, they attempted to break in through a rear door. The homeowner was inside the home on the second floor, and the suspects fled as soon as they saw the homeowner.
Officers attempted to stop the suspects on arrival, but they were able to flee.
On Tuesday morning, officers stopped Edwards as he was breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Officers recognized him as the suspect from the day before and took him into custody.
The second suspect is still at large and is described as a male, wearing shorts and a dark shirt.
Edwards was charged with attempted burglary second degree, conspiracy second degree, three counts of criminal mischief, resisting arrest, attempted theft from motor vehicle, theft under $1500, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass first degree. He was released on his own recognizance.
