State leaders weigh in on Handgun Permit Review Board

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Governor Hogan says he is vetoing a bill that would have eliminated your right to have your case heard by an appeal board should the state reject or limit the purchase of a handgun.

Currently, any person whose application for a handgun permit is revoked can ask the Handgun Permit Review Board to review the decision made by state police.

According to Delegate Carl Anderton this veto will most likely be overridden by legislative leaders when they return in January, but for now he believes the Governor’s decision was the right now.

“I understand the veto, we voted against the bill because I do believe that if you are denied a good and substantial reason through the state police you should have an opportunity to appeal your decision,” said Anderton.

Some state officials say eliminating the board would not prevent violent crime.
