Staggered deadline approaches for Real ID customers

MARYLAND –  Over 66,000 new Real ID licenses or identification cards will soon be recalled if their owners do not comply by June 1.

The MVA is issuing staggered deadlines to residents who need to bring in documentation, including proof of identity, social security card, and two proofs of address.

The state has about a million residents who need to comply, so they are contacting residents in groups.

Those in the first group have been contacted three times, and they will be contacted three more times before they will face possible consequences.

<If you’re driving and a law enforcement officer pulls you over, then that officer would have to confiscate the license. So we’re asking all customers to be proactive, take the action to come in and take care of it now before it becomes an issue.>

A total of 1 million residents will be contacted, but you can check your status at the Real ID look-up guide. You can schedule an appointment, even if you have not yet been contacted.
